Audio interview: Grand Magus

With mighty riffs, roaring choruses and powerful rhythms all acting as weapons at their disposal, Swedish metallers Grand Magus are a quintessential example of classic metal being resurrected in the 21st century.

And, hot off their shred-tacular eighth album Sword Songs (2016), the power trio of frontman J.B., bassist Fox and drummer Ludde are currently bringing old-school, guitar-driven heavy rock to the masses across Europe and the UK.

On 31st March, the almighty Magus and their trailblazing support act, Greek progressive stoners Planet of Zeus, brought their dual metal madness to the British coast with a raucous set at Southampton’s premier rock club, the Talking Heads.

Mere hours before bringing Viking rock to a roaring crowd of hardy Englishfolk, J.B. talks with Far Beyond Written’s Matt Mills all about his band’s current European tour, as well as the Sword Songs record, the new video for “Freja’s Choice”, and if there are any plans in place for an upcoming ninth album.
